Futility1.  
Old Mrs. Sinclair  was blind in both eyes.  At eighty-six,  she had little  to do but sit out  on her front porch  
and listen.  She'd follow the sound  of my bicycle, and  from a distance  you'd think she could  really see you.  I'd catch myself  lifting up a hand to wave  at her sometimes  without really  knowing  why.

The morning..'The morning prior to the service'   
 
These aren’t the sort of love songs you’d expect,  With melodies that both thunder and caress,  And words that twist with grace and wrenching heartache.  They’re horrible,  And yet they’re beautiful, uncommon, romantic.  They hold you and destroy you, disgust and entertain you,  Leaving you a shadow in their endless contrast.

Without ComplaintWe, the millions, suffering gladly,  Waiting so close and just out of reach.  We, the hopeless, with nothing but patience,  Bitterly waving whenever we meet.  We, the shoulders for others to cry on,  Faceless and nameless, creatures of blame.  We, the glass jars for misery vented,  Painting on smiles to drown out the shame.   
She lies without sleeping, smothered in blankets,  Or stands at the window, waiting for dawn,  Or maybe for death. She's been so lonely.  The radio's crooning her favorite song.  You tell her you love her on a constant basis,  But not in the way she's Without Complaint

Another PortraitThere’s madness in her quiet;  She is much too young to burn,  But something in her whisper  Makes you wonder what it’s worth.  She seems completely flawless  And yet perfectly corrupt.  Her sorrow is a service  That you’d hate to interrupt.

So there's more poetry being produced in this creative writing class of mine, but the piece I just finished I feel really has no place being published as it is, so it'll have to wait a while. I would have been fine if I had another week, but I had to scramble to finish it last night, and it seems completely cruddy. It's already three classes overdue, so I don't think I could get away with pushing it another day. Hopefully the workshopping will help.

I got a new camera! So hopefully there will be some interesting shots on the way. I've been wanting one forever, and I finally swallowed my usual inability to spend money (on productive things, anyway; I don't seem to have any problem spending it on food, and movies) and went and bought myself one. It's not a spectacular camera; I was on a $200 budget. But it's a Nikon Coolpix S560, which will suit me just fine for the time being.

So I asked on livejournal, and I'm asking here. Anyone have any really good espresso flavor combinations they really enjoy? I'm looking for something new to try. My favorite is a Chocolate-Mint-Cookie-Dough Granita, but no one ever has the cookie dough flavoring anymore. Suggestions?
